The program is run by practice experts with experience in dealing with atypical children and their families. The purpose of the Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is to increase the level and quality of special education teacher training at NUI Galway. FDP will be delivered by a team of experienced Special Education Teachers who have had extensive teaching experience across a range of schools, sectors, and settings with a specific focus on the development of their teaching methods and subject content knowledge in designing, planning, and delivering Special Education programs. Finalizing a Teacher Development Programme for our Special Education Teachers for the next three academic years (2016/2017, 2017/2018, and 2018/2019) having in mind the main objective of the program is to develop Teachers skills, attitudes, and pedagogical practices which will ensure students with SEND are educated and supported in the Mainstream. Orientation, assessment, and access planning are the three key components of special education teacher courses. The purpose of these courses is to ensure that special education teachers have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide learning that is appropriate for students with a variety of learning needs
