Little Ways to Treat Yourself When You are Feeling Gloomy

Crawford Miller

Winter can be a lovely time of the year as the festive season dominates, but it can also be a time of gloom and grumps. Getting up while dark and getting home while it is dark is not just an issue for vitamin D access, and having to prepare yourself for cold, wet weather every time you step outside is not an encouraging experience.

Yes, winter can be a drag, but thankfully, there are little ways that you can treat yourself to pick yourself up and help the day go a little more smoothly.

An Animal Cuddle

If you have your own pet or know someone who does, having a cuddle or playing with an animal can help us feel relaxed and relieved. There is a reason that animal therapy exists, and if you can find a furry friend to pay you some attention, this can be a little and easy treat to give yourself. Not to forget that the animals will love the fuss too!

Get in Your Bed

Sometimes you just can’t beat your bed. It is a safe space where you can snuggle, surround yourself with blankets and pillows, read, watch your favourite shows, or simply close your eyes. If you are feeling gloomy, you might need a little extra rest, which can often be the case in winter. Don’t be afraid to take time to rest or even take your laptop up to bed so you can work in comfort if that would feel better to you. A treat bed day is a good day. Bear in mind, the less you do it, the more it will feel like a treat when you do.

Retail Therapy

While buying things will not make you happy indefinitely, it can give you a little boost, especially if you choose wisely. Get yourself something you have wanted for a while, rather than an impulse purchase, or treat yourself to something that will last, like a high-quality piece of jewellery from this jewellers in Hertfordshire. Something small but lasting will remind you to keep going and that brighter days are coming. Or you could also opt for chocolate, because that works well in lifting the spirits too

Put on a Playlist

Music is a great way to bring your mood up so long as you pick the right type of music. Adele and Coldplay’s greatest hits may be best saved for when you need a good cry instead! Focus on strong beats with a high tempo and preferably uplifting lyrics. It is particularly hard to feel down when you are listening to something upbeat or are shouting 90s pop songs at the top of your lungs, so choose your playlist wisely and sing along. If you feel like getting your groove on, then some dancing will only aid the journey to your new mood.

There are many small ways to treat yourself when you are feeling gloomy, many of which you can do from the comfort of your home, so find something that works for you!
