Ever Tried Fish Curry? Tasty Types You Need To Try

Crawford Miller

It is a fact that most people will have at least one curry that they love. However, these curries are usually based around chicken, chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, and so on. Ergo, other curries that are extremely tasty can be left out.

If you have never tried a fish curry, you don’t know what you are missing; the delicate, flaky texture of the fish makes it an ideal addition to any curry, and you may be surprised at how tasty these curries can be.

So, what are some of the best fish curries that you need to try? Read on to find out!

Tiger Prawn and Salmon Moilee

If you are a fan of tiger prawns and coconut, then you will love a tiger prawn and salmon moilee.

This is a tangy disk that combines the subtle flavors of the tiger prawns and the salmon and enhances them with onion, fresh curry leaves, and mustard seeds. Typically, it will be served with Tandoori spices, but depending on where you go to eat it, some places may serve it with the coconut aspect as a soup rather than as the ingredient that the dish is fried in. So, if that sounds tasty, head to a curry house like Urban Tandoor in Bristol to try it out!

Bengali Fish Curry

This dish is typically made with rohu, which is a type of Indian carp. This fish can be pretty tasty but, added to some ginger, red chili, some chili powder, and some turmeric, it bursts with flavor, making this curry spicy, flavourful, and colorful.

It is best served with either white rice or jasmine rice, as this helps to enhance the fish’s taste while also being an interesting backdrop for the tamarind paste that is mixed into the curries paste.

Goan Fish Curry

Going from one bright dish to another, Goan fish curry is a meal you simply have to try!

It does require a lot of ingredients, but once you have tasted it, you are certain to be stocking up on them at home so you can cook it yourself.

What are those ingredients? Herbs and spices, of course. This dish features Kashmiri chili, fenugreek, turmeric, coriander, cumin, and ground cloves, as well as tamarind and a few cloves of garlic.

Best of all is that you can use almost any fish for this curry, so if you like salmon or trout, both are tasty and work perfectly here!

Kerala Fish Curry

This is something you must try if you love a bit of fire!

Much like the Goan curry, this one is based around garlic, ginger, cumin, turmeric, coriander, and a lot of fenugreek, mixed with some chili powder and tomatoes. The best fish for the dish is a meaty one, like halibut, salmon, or even cod. Just be sure to have some yogurt to hand, as this is a spicy one!

Malvani Fish Curry

This is a specialized dish that is borne from the West of India.

To pull it off, or if eating at a restaurant, you can expect there to be coconut milk, onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, and tamarind water. You will also need to mix up some Malvani masala, which is what adds flavor to this dish. Also, be sure to use kingfish, as this is ideal for this particular curry recipe.
